About

Hi I’m Ray and welcome to my site. I’m in my late 40s and have been called “The Ferndog” for most of my life, well at least since the first time in 1997 when I was at Ground Radio Repair School by a fellow Marine named Gomez in the barracks one time when we were hanging out and as Marines will do will give each other nicknames often to egg one another on into a bad idea that ends up being memorable long after the lesson was learned and the injuries healed.
The next person who would refer to me as “The Ferndog” in a completely unrelated incident two years later as my platoon prepared to sail across the Western Pacific to the Persian Gulf was a Marine tanker who said it at just the right moment that it stuck with me since 1999. Yet more bad ideas and adventures have followed both me and the name across the world.
After leaving service in 2001, the name continued and has almost been tattooed on my soul as a reminder of where I’ve been (around the world twice and then some), and the potential within me like finishing my degree in 2013 in just under 2 years, and then as a reminder of the mistakes I’ve made like that time in Hong Kong in 2000, when I had to run away from the police with a passed out Doc on my shoulder to avoid an international incident. Those are just some of the many odd moments I’ve experienced in my life. Hopefully you’ll laugh, be entertained, and possibly even we’ll all learn from each other as I figure out how to make websites, and work on writing an actual book or 2.
So sit back and enjoy the ride.
